Currently rebranding to Mental Health America of the MidSouth, Mental Health Association of Middle Tennessee’s (MHA) mission is to promote mental health and wellness through advocacy, education, and referral. Programs focus on suicide prevention, Alzheimer’s support, multicultural outreach, anti-bullying in schools, free mental health screenings, advocacy, professional continuing education, and community information. Through advocacy, the agency seeks to improve health for Tennesseans by implementing a project called “Total Mental Health Advocacy: Today, Tomorrow, Tennessee.” Over the next three years, MHA will focus on three areas: Today (adults) – increasing access to behavioral healthcare for under/uninsured employees in Tennessee by teaching more people to be mental health advocates, including business professionals, survivors of suicide, and those with lived experience. Tomorrow (youth) – teaching educators and youth about ACEs while training young, grassroots mental health leaders. Tennessee – continuing to push for Medicaid expansion and the maintenance of the behavioral health safety net.
