Founded in 1898, the YWCA first received its letter of determination for tax-exempt status in 1942. YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Today, the YWCA provides 75% of all emergency shelter beds for domestic violence victims in Davidson County. The agency’s goals/outcomes for the year include: 160 of 200 (80%) adults will identify strategies for physical and emotional safety by creating a safety plan; 60 of 75 (80%) children (over age 5) and teens in shelter who have witnessed domestic violence will demonstrate understanding of their safety plans by role-play — safety plans help children and teens know what to do during a domestic violence situation; and 1,904 of 2,380 (80%) callers in crisis will increase their immediate safety by developing an individualized safety plan over the phone.
