AWAKE advocates for the advancement of women and kids through education and policy change. Since 2013, AWAKE has successfully researched, drafted and guided eight bills, focused upon the safety of women and children, to passage; launched a state-wide educational campaign on child abuse prevention; developed a truancy intervention program; and designed curriculum that helps middle and high school students learn about healthy relationships and financial independence. Through each of the collaborative efforts, the agency stands committed to the conviction that women and kids in Tennessee deserve to feel safe, lead healthy lives, and have equal access to opportunity. Through advocacy, the agency seeks to improve health for Tennesseans by using organizational resources, as well as the collective impact of volunteers, to reduce the number of women killed by men in Tennessee, which is among the highest in the nation. AWAKE’s leadership plans to strengthen advocacy efforts by harnessing the energy of an “Army of Advocates” across the state along with the expertise of partner organizations, to champion a multitude of issues that affect women and children
