Established in 1968 by Dr. Matthew Walker, Sr. a renowned Meharry Medical College surgeon, Dr. Walker was a best known for his passion for training other minority students. Dr. Walker envisioned a health center that would provide a place where the community could find health care, employment, and training. Today Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center (MWCHC) provides quality health care, health education and wellness promotion as a continuation of Dr. Walker’s vision. The agency’s goals/outcomes for the year include: 90% of 13,815 (12,433) of all medical patients 18 years old or older with an abnormal body mass index (BMI) indicated will have a follow-up plan documented. 90% of 14,315 (12,883) of patients 12 years old or older will be screened for depression with a standardized tool and if the screening is positive, will have a follow-up plan documented within the medical record.
