Saint Thomas Health Foundation is the fiscal agent for this grant and the Nashville Academy of Medicine operates the program being funded. Founded in 1821, the Nashville Academy of Medicine is the professional society for physicians in Davidson County. It’s mission is to advocate for physicians, their patients, and the community, promoting the highest standards of ethical medical practice and access to quality medical care, education, and research. The funds requested in the application will support staff who coordinate specialty care with volunteer physicians serving uninsured, low-income Nashville residents. Of the 440 of patients served by Project Access Nashville Specialty Care, 400 (90.9%) will qualify and will be served by a volunteer physician specialist. In order to provide capacity for patients, the addition of 20 volunteer physician specialists will expand the program’s capacity to help individuals have their immediate crisis needs met. These additional 20 volunteer physician specialists will result in increased access to specialty care for 40 new patients, and 80 physician encounters per year.
